Last April, J.J. Abrams (who, for those who haven't heard, is taking on Star Wars: Episode VII as director) expressed his interest in hiring John Williams to score the new sequel. Today, it's official.
I have to say, personally I was a little hesitant to get excited about Abrams being on board - not that he isn't fantastic at what he does, he makes great movies, but Star Wars is a franchise that many, young and old, have held close to their heart their entire lives. It's a huge responsibility for J.J. Abrams, and considering his relationship with Michael Giacchino, who has written the score for Disneyland's Star Tours as well as Star Trek movies and video games, I was a little nervous that Abrams would miss the awesome opportunity for the world to hear a seventh Star Wars score from the man who gave us some of the most famous movie themes in film scoring history.
Luckily, Abrams did not disappoint and I am extremely excited to hear what John Williams will give us this time.
